At the University of Twente, we are looking for an inspiring and decisive Director for our prestigious NanoLab with a scope of 0.8-1 fte. As NanoLab Director, reporting to the MESA+ Institute's Managing Director, you will be responsible for the development, implementation, operation and evaluation of crucial business processes within the NanoLab. You will play a key role in shaping and leading the organisation to achieve the highest level of operational excellence and to bolster the positioning of NanoLab both nationally and internationally. The NanoLab is a joint facility of the S&T and EEMCS Faculties and in terms of content, is also co-managed under the auspices of MESA+.

Job description:

As NanoLab Director, you are jointly responsible for the strategic policy and jointly responsible for the operation and operational running of the NanoLab. You develop, implement and evaluate the (sub)processes within the operational management to achieve the objectives of the NanoLab. You will ensure that the organisation is set up efficiently and manage staff directly and indirectly, while keeping an eye on development and growth.

Collaboration is at the heart of this role. You work closely with the Head of Operations at NanoLab and other internal stakeholders, such as the EEMCS and S&T Faculties, the Executive Board and the Finance and Strategy & Policy Boards of Concern. You will be the point of contact and ensure that the NanoLab is optimally aligned with internal stakeholders. You will also contribute to the coordination of policy and collaboration with external partners, building and maintaining relationships to foster strategic collaboration and growth.

Your profile

As NanoLab Director, you will drive technology development and business development within the NanoLab. You will identify and capitalise on opportunities for growth and innovation, working with the NanoLab team to develop new partnerships and secure external funding. You will be responsible for the operational and financial management of the NanoLab, managing budgets, monitoring financial progress, reporting and making proposals for investment in research infrastructure.

You will actively participate in relevant regional and (inter)national bodies related to the NanoLab or its activities. In this way, you will help raise the profile of the NanoLab and strengthen its position both nationally and internationally.

Profile:

  • Leadership: You have extensive experience in leading and inspiring teams, whereby you foster an inclusive and collaboration-driven culture.

  • Strategic thinking: You are capable of analysing internal and external developments and translating these into a strategic vision and objectives for the NanoLab.

  • Stakeholder management: You are able to communicate and work together effectively with internal stakeholders, external partners and relevant bodies.

  • Entrepreneurship: You have a proactive attitude and can spot opportunities for growth, innovation and external funding.

  • Financial management: You have experience in managing budgets and can carry out financial planning and reporting.

  • Technological knowledge: You have a good working knowledge of the technologies under development in NanoLab; you understand the requirements and challenges in this field.

  • Communication skills: You have excellent communication skills in both Dutch and English. Command of the German language is a plus.

Our offer

  • We are offering you a challenging position (32-40 hours/week) for the duration of one year, with the prospect of permanent employment.

  • The salary amounts to a maximum of €7,362 gross per month for full-time employment (scale 14). The pay scale depends on your education and experience.

  • The employment conditions are in accordance with the CLA for Dutch Universities.

  • An excellent package of fringe benefits, which includes a good pension scheme, holiday pay, and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%.

  • A minimum of 232 holiday leave hours for full-time employment.
